Summer 2013

To find out what Staines is like in summer, two members of The Swedish Massive spent a few days there last weekend. Last Saturday members of the Senior and Academy staff in STFC made a bike ride to Brighton and back (65 miles), in order to raise funds for coaching equipment.

We were there of course! Not on the bikes, but to hand over our contribution. The tour was to start at 8.00 from the car park at Wheatsheaf Park. We arrived at 7.30, just to find that early birds sometimes catch nothing. No one was there and the gates were closed. For a while we thought we had got it all wrong, but five minutes later people started to turn up. Five minutes past eight, when Steve Parsons had arrived, (the one who told us to be there at 7.30 ;-) ) the very fit looking group left the car park. As far as we know the ride was successful. All nine riders came back the day after and the sponsoring part also seems to be satisfying. Final figures later.

Judging from the four days we were there, English summer weather is fantastic! The Staines- upon- Thames Day on Sunday was held in bright sunshine with duck races and all. Pity, they can’t put away some sunshine for the November days.
