Diary of a Staines man

Well - shall I start with the romance of the FA Cup or the bread and butter of league football? - No contest - so straight to league action at top of the table - champions elect - Eastleigh. I thought we would do well to get a point and after a short time we were 1-0 down and that is the way it stayed. We did not offer anything in particular with a couple of air shots from Louie T and Kyle had a couple of decent saves and stops to deny "money bags" Eastleigh from scoring any more goals.

One of my fellow travellers said it will not rain today and another one said it will rain at 4PM (Source : BBC TV). And it did rain at about 4PM and stopped at 4.01PM - now that is what I call a weather forecast! I think that is where the excitement ended for that particular game.

Last Tuesday's game at home to Weston-super-mare was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and there is a picture on one of the social sites showing a large puddle on the pitch.

So back to the glory of the FA Cup and the final round before the big boys enter with a home tie v Poole. A bit of an anti climax really with a 0-0 draw with our goalkeeper winning the man of the match award with a fine performance. We could have scored right near the end of the game with a header which looked goalbound but somehow went to wide of me. So a replay down at Poole tomorrow if the wild storms have finished battering down the south of England. So we are still in the hat for the 1st round and our local league side will host Staines (or Poole!). That really is an incentive for the fans to grab some glory as a fair number of Brentford fans live in Staines and go to watch the Swans when Brentford are not playing. Poole will have their top scorer back for the replay so our goalkeeper may be even busier than the drawn game. This Saturday we host Hayes and Yeading who we beat 7-1 last season so we will have to improve this time!
