FA Cup fever grips Staines

I thought I would get my headline in first. A comfortable win really on Saturday against Sittingbourne, who are a couple of levels below Staines in the nonleague pyramid and of course we were at home so no other option than a win for the Swans - and it turned out to be with KING LOUIE T smashing in the first goal from just outside the box after collecting his conference south player of the month award but I think he did put the award down before scoring the first goal.

A minor scare soon followed with our visitors making the game all square but our French midfielder - STEPH scored another fine (and his first) right on the half time whistle so we could breathe again. Another strike from outside the area with the left foot of "HUW J" and bang on 90 minutes "OLU" opened his account for his first competitive goal and seemed quite emotional with the goal as his "celebration" was not the usual jump up as high as possible on the spot (as he does when scoring in the youth games) and punch the air!

So Staines are now in the fourth and final qualifying round and the draw has just been made and we host Poole Town who are one level below us but of course we have home advantage and I am sure everyone is confident of reaching the first round proper with a chance to play a league side from DIV 1 and 2 with even the possibility of being featured in a live TV game! So let's hope it does not fall flat on the last Saturday of the month.

Oh yes - I nearly forgot that other thing we do - play league games. It was a decent performance last Saturday with a creditable 1-1 at Tonbridge Angels. After LOUIE T (I think he is going to score in every game!) converted a penalty the home team equalized but I feel a draw was a fair result as both teams could have scored to win the game but not to be and our first point gained on the road this season.
