Diary of a Staines man

#32, Published September 30th, 2013

We are fast approaching October - tomorrow in fact - perhaps a few leaves will fall in sunny Staines but none will appear on our superb football pitch and even the team is doing their bit at homes games. A remarkable 5 wins out of 5 at "the Staines fortress". We just now need to work on the away form but not to worry really as we are 5th in the League which is a play-off place. So still playing the "American game" with no draws.

So what happens in the FA Cup? An away draw v Aylesbury United who in fact are also away as they ground share with Leighton Town. I was really confident we would win this. Did not even think of another result so at half time with the score 0-0 a bit worried - I think complete passes was a similar score on a bumpy pitch - we are so used to play football on a carpet. But I need not worry, soon afterwards as a three nil bashing made sure we are in the next round.

The draw has just been made - home to Sittingbourne who are a couple of levels below us. With all this in mind there is no doubt we will win - no pressure then. Each time the absolute king Louie T scores I keeping think there will be another scout at the next game looking for Louie to go further up the ladder - hopefully we will keep hold of him unless say Manchester United or somebody starts waving very large sums of money at us. I suppose we could swop him with Wayne Rooney who is reported to want a move to Chelsea and Staines is not far away from there and it is nearer the airport.

Anyway, back to the league next Saturday and away at Tonbridge Angels so with the team gaining with confidence I am sure we will collect our first points - notice the plural there - on the road this season.
