Diary of a Staines man

Without the risk of sounding boring – oh dear well we lost again – but at least we did not concede 4 goals at home. Only 3 goals shipped in and the game was away So maybe we have improved a bit! The goals conceded were really defensive errors, something the manager said he was working on, but at least our ever present this term Goalkeeper still seems to be our "man of the match".

Jack Turner has decided to don a pink goalkeeper’s kit this season for cancer awareness but the league has now told us pink cannot be worn as it is not a registered colour with the club, so now he wears light blue. The league said they had sympathy for him (and the club) but cannot bend the rules.

At least we had something to cheer about with a fine goal direct from a free kick by Richard Langley (I think if David Beckham took it the ball would fly just over the bar). Perhaps I should have stayed in the local pub in Havant drinking wonderful beer served by a nice looking barmaid with big......(I cannot remember the English word) [“smile”? -editors note].

Tomorrow (11th) we host Hanworth Villa in the Middlesex county cup – their first visit to Wheatsheaf Lane I understand. The "Villa" have not been around at this level for long so we could say it is their "cup final" -It will be interesting to see our starting line up as sometimes teams play other/emerging players or, since we keep losing every week, Marcus may start with the strongest team. We will just have to wait and see.

This Saturday we host Western-super-mare. This game has been brought forward from the easter weekend as both teams have been knocked out of the FA trophy (we were due to host Welling who still have an interest in this competition). I understand they approached us to bring the game forward. We have 100 percent home record v Weston (ok only played three times) so long may that continue this Saturday...
