Diary of a Staines man

Sutton (H) = Oh dear another four goals conceded in a game. But we did lead 1-0 just after the interval for something to cheer about and with four players making their debut. Two of them with a couple of hundred appearances between two of them it looked like we may have turned a corner, especially as we beat Sutton away in the league earlier in the season. So hoping for our first double of the campaign.........well not to be of course...

Apart from the goal their goalkeeper made two outstanding saves at full stretch but that was it from us. Our keeper made one of the best saves you will ever see - when the score was goalless - forget about Gordon Banks save for England against that bloke from Brazil called Pele in the 1970 world cup (which they show on English TV all the time) this was even better!

Going back to early last season when we played Sutton away we lost by a Tom Kavanger strike - who then went to Staines for a lengthy loan deal. He did not score for us - now back with Sutton and you have guessed it. He scored again against us but at least the damage had already been done when he scored.

Anyway, now Louie T has signed for Bromley and Dave Wheeler with Tony Garrod both injured where were the goals going to come from? So it is head up, or is it heads down, these days for a visit to Havant and Waterlooville this coming Saturday for another chance to obtain maximum points - we hope.

PS: The now what if column...Hastings who beat us in the FA Cup still have an interest as they drew the 2nd round game at Harrogate so in the hat for the 3rd round with the big boys and Hastings/Harrogate will face Middlesbrough.
