Diary of a Staines man

Well, there is not much to say I am afraid, after a crushing 4-1 home defeat by Tonbridge Angels.

The afternoon seem to start so well with Louie T claiming his blue square south player of the month award and during the first half, while the game was still scoreless we won a penalty and the good old curse of winning an award reared its ugly head and Louie missed it. Then very much all downhill from there on with of course a player being sent off thrown in the mix.

Our youth team are hosting Wroxham in the FA youth cup 1st round this Wednesday - pity we did not draw a league's youth team As league 1 and 2 enter at this stage (as the FA Cup) with then the winners of this game are away to league side Bristol Rovers and, believe it or not, the third round (when the big boys enter) has already been drawn so the winners will visit Coventry or Oldham.

Hastings who knocked us out of the FA cup are still in the competition and have been drawn away (round 2) to fellow non-league side Harrogate. So yet again have missed a league side and the winners will join teams like Manchester United, Liverpool , Chelsea etc etc. So for me it is If only we had beaten Hastings. If only!

This Saturday we visit fellow Blue square south team in Bromley in the FA Trophy (The FA cup for non-league sides). This is our second visit there as we played them on the first day of the season which produced a 0-0. This competition seems to be ridiculed by some, especially teams at the top of the blue square premier, who just think this competition gets in the way of becoming a league side but to others a chance to visit new grounds (not for us yet this season!) enjoy the winners cheque for each round and hopefully reach the final at that ground in London with the funny old arch, or Wembley stadium as some people call it. So hopefully my next report the 1st and youth team will have progressed in their cup exploits and enjoy pastures new.........
