Diary of a Staines man

We were all pleased that we could host troubled Truro last Tuesday and that they are now playing football with a very broad smile on their supporters when arriving at our "Win every home game" ground. It makes a change on seeing P-P next to their fixture. As soon as the referee started the game it did seem a bit strange playing a team which were in a way out of business the previous week - for about half an hour or so. We of course wanted to win the game and go a dizzy second in the league and a belter from Louie T ensured we were currently in the runners up position. People at work were talking about their new arrivals in their family or moving house and winning the Lottery - well never mind all that we are second in the league. You have played more games than everyone somebody remarked...well what's that got to do with it? - We are second in the league! And we have already beaten the top team.

So heads up for Saturday and a visit to Chelmsford. Hopefully they will have their minds on their FA Cup game v local league team Colchester - should be a good old Essex derby. Pity it is not one of the TV live games. Anyway they took an early lead. I did not see the goal very clearly as I was walking around the ground taking up my position. Scoring before I take up my position! It is not very sporting is it? 3-0 down during the second half but we did not give up and good old Louie T with another belter and a couple of minutes later converting a penalty making the score 3-2. I was convinced and of course hoped 3-3 was on the cards but not to be. We have moved down to 4th which is still in a play off position but without a game this Tuesday (30th) no doubt we will drop down again. Looking forward to the visit of Tonbridge Angels (or angles of death as I call them) this Saturday for another three points... well, we win at home now, don’t we!
