Diary of a Staines man

Since my last report we entertained in form cup side but out of form bottom of the league side Gosport Borough to our humble home - our first home Saturday game for 10 weeks, I understand. I did not bother to count the weeks I read it somewhere! Anyway a nice day - no game for a while - great chance to win the game due to our visitors form and of course – we lost 3-0. A pretty awful performance I am afraid and a low crowd as well.

Perhaps the team and the fans just got out of the habit going to the ground on a Saturday afternoon. So the best thing is to just erase from the memory but good look to our visitors for their big day at Wembley for the FA Trophy final v Cambridge United.

So an away game on Tuesday v Hayes And Yeading, who play their home games at Woking while their ground is being developed. It has been taking a long time as money seems to have run out for them somewhere. My journey to the game was by coach from London Heathrow Terminal 5 direct to Woking. I mean who else would go from this departure point to watch Staines play football?

Thinking before the game it could not be as bad as Saturday - impossible - playing a team which has lost eight games in a row who hopefully will not break their sequence - and of course they went in the half time break 1-0 up. But with a Max Worsfield free kick which just wandered into the goal without touching anyone to equalise. And at 90+1 Jordaan Brown eluded his marker to head home from close range to win the game.

So a visit on Saturday to Havant and Waterlooville beaming with confidence resulted in a good performance with
king Louie T scoring just before half time and Ashley Lodge scoring his first senior goal for the Club resulted in a 2-0 win.

The next two games both being at home to the top two teams - On Saturday we host (my tip for the league at the start of the season) Eastleigh and on Tuesday Bromley are the visitors with previous performances coming into consideration. I have no idea which Staines team is going to turn up - hopefully a confident one and if so we have a good chance of obtaining some (a bit of a conservative guess there- but please feel free to say maximum) points.
