Diary of a Staines man

A return of the diary, which has finally dried out – “Come hell or high water” as the expression goes. That must apply to Staines Town FC as we have not won a game for a while and there has been plenty of high water around the ground and area these last couple of months with one home game being staged and that being a 0-0 against Maidenhead United.

So it has been on the road with not much joy I am afraid. Saturday's visit to Dorchester was advertised as being played on Feb 29th on the STFC web site but since changed and to makes matters a bit more confusing the STFC twitter correspondence must have been at a different game as all sorts of nonsense appeared but the correct result was indeed 1-1 with Louie T opening the scoring just before half time and the hosts equalizing from the penalty spot in the second half. I thought the penalty was a bit harsh but home fans thought otherwise so I wonder what actually did happen.

On the previous Tuesday we visited Concord Rangers for the first time and lost 2-1 showing a bit of fight for a short period of the game so possibly a bit unlucky not to share the spoils.

A 3-0 reverse at Ebbsfleet, where it seemed that every player read the script, and a bit of a non-event as far as we were concerned - one to get out of the way.

We had the strange situation playing a "home" game v Hendon in the Middlesex county cup at the Hayes and Yeading 4G Pitch (or 3G pitch as sometimes advertised which is different to 4G- well it is green and not grass so what does it matter!) and after being 2-0 up we of course lost 3-2 so the holders are out of the final cup competition for the season.
