Diary of a Staines man

One has to pay attention in the last and coming weeks with fixture changes due to cup competitions replacing league games and the FA Trophy taking preference To the Middlesex county cup. I am sure people will turn up at the wrong ground expecting a certain fixture to go ahead and see nobody around and no lights shining - so it is a case of  "please check the website for details" but I am old fashioned so I have the fixtures written on the back of my hand.

We are being kept busy with replays against Farnborough and tomorrow's visit to ex top tier and former Football league cup winners Luton. Somewhere in between we have had a couple of league games home to Concord Rangers and away to Gosport. This was the first time we have played these teams at a competitive level and to lose both games without scoring a goal was very disappointing. Our manager was not very happy and with fans asking to change the team makes people wondering what is the best eleven and formation to start the game.

I seemed to get the impression that Luton do not want to play in the FA trophy. With all change from their last league game in the conference premier at least it gives their reserves/youth/fringe players a go and to impress their manager. Luton fans do not come out in force for this competition as for sure their return to the football league is their only priority. So a win at Luton will certainly make a mixed bag of results in the last few weeks before we host Bishops Stortford this Saturday coming, who have a very good chance for the play offs at least come the season end.
